This is the fix for Aurora. When finished post a new hijack this log.
Quote
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
1. When you run ewido for the first time, you might get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
2. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
3. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
4. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
Download CCleaner and install, but do not run it yet.
http://www.CCleaner.com/ccdownload.asp
Please download this installer for the Nailfix utility revised
http://www.noidea.us...050711214630636
DO NOT run it yet.
Alternate download link here: Nailfix.zip
http://www.spywareai...22&softtype=zip
Don't have HijackThis yet? Here's where to get it and instructions on how to download and scan:
http://spywarewarrio...opic.php?t=6914
Reboot to Safe Mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe. Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish". Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.
Next, run Ewido again.
1. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
2. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. We'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
3. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Then run HijackThis, click Scan, and place a checkmark by the following items (if found):
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [random] c:\windows\system32\random.exe r
Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked Note that the 04 entry may have changed names if you have rebooted since posting the log; look for an entry with a similar format, that will always in in a single letter r.
Locate and delete the following File in BOLD:
c:\windows\system32\random.exe (or whatever the name may have changed to, as noted above).
Now, run CCleaner.
1. Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
2. If running Firefox: click on the "Applications" tab and uncheck "Cookies" under "Firefox".
3. Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
Finally, restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
(Or start a new topic with those two logs if you haven't started one yet).

However the 2 links for the Nailfix utility / nailfix.zip don't work and neither does the link for instructions on how to reboot in safe mode (is it just hold F8 while the system is booting?)

1. Double clicked on nailfix.cmd
2. Ran Ewido, scanned, saved a report
3. Ran HijackThis, scanned, checked F2 - REG....nail.exe and 04 - ...random.exe r and click Fix Checked
4. Ran CCleaner
5. restarted in normal mode
I read somewhere that I need to locate and delete the exe. r file. I couldn't find it, either by going through My Computer or by doing a search. When I go into the Windows folder, the only folder in there is System (and there are no other files), and that is empty.
i still have the Aurora message popping up from Zone Alarm.
Here is my latest Hijackthis log and Ewido report, thanks again for your help:

I know I have other infections but right now I'm just trying to solve the Aurora problem. these are the steps I went through, please tell me if I'm missing something out or doing osmething wrong (and how to do it correctly):
1. Reboot to safe mode
2. Dbl click on nailfix.cmd on the desktop where I extracte dit to.
3. Ewido. Scan entire system. The instructions I was given said that if I was unsure about what to check, then choose None for all items and post a new log. I saved a report at the end of the scan.
4. HijackThis. Scanned, placed check next to FR-REG:System....nail.exe and 04-HKLM......exe r
5. CCleaner. Unchecked "cookies" under Internet Explorer, clicked Run Cleaner.
6. Restarted in normal mode.
I was also told to "locate and delete" the exe r file. Although it shows up on my HijackThis scan I coudn't find it so didn't delete it.

Follow Tarun's Instructions and then post a new hijack this log for one of us to look at. About the log not being up to date your first one you used the latest version and the second one you did not. So figure out which is the old one and delete it.
Thanks for the back up Tarun.

Anyway, this is what I've done today, please let me know if anything seems amiss:
1) In safe mode...Scanned using Norton Anti-virus. 5 infections were found, quarantine and delete failed. They were eied_s7_c_169.exe or 71.exe etc, 4 of them Downloader.Trojan and one Download.Trojan.
2) CW Shredder. CWS.MSConfig was removed, everything else "Not Present".
3) Spyware Blaster. Fine.
4) Microsoft Anti-Spyware. 13 items detected. 57 Registry keys. I removed the offending infections and rebooted in safe mode still.
5) Ad-Aware. 88 critical objects. 6 registry keys, 32 registry values, 50 files. All 88 removed.
6) SpyBot. Immunized, "4339 bad products are now blocked".
5 items came up, AbetterInternet (2 entries), AbetterInternet.Aurora, Webdialer (3 entries), WindowsSecurityFirewallOverride and WindowsSecurityAnti-VirusOverride.
Checked them, clicked Fix Checked. 8 problems fixed.
7) Dbl clicked on nailfix as per the instructions for removing Aurora virus. Ran HijackThis, saved log. Ran CCleaner, removed 1.1MB.
8) Rebooted to normal mode...Scanned using Ewido. Complete system scan, 32 infected objects cleaned.
9) Ran CCleaner. 602.7MB removed.
10) Downloaded Windows Update.
11) Ran Microsoft Anti-Spyware. 6 items detected, removed. Rebooted.
12) Ran Ad-Aware. Made sure what needed to be checked was checked again. 66 critical objects. 8 registry keys, 56 registry values, 2 files. Removed them. Compare results to earlier Ad-Aware scan in #5.
Oh and since about an hour ago a weird noise is coming out of the left hand of my laptop every now and again (since I started downloading the Windows Update). Yay.
Here is my latest HijackThis log and Ewido report:

Steps
1. Redownload nailfix (Delete the one you have now)
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow...050711214630636
2. Open hijack this and delete the following entries (Put a check in the box and then choose fixed checked):
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\CURRYS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\QRK\aurareco.exe
3. Boot to safe mode.
4. While in safe mode run nail fix.
5. While still in safe mode run ewido (Remove everything).
6. Boot to regular mode and get a hijack this log and paste it here.
Good luck.
(The good news is that you did manage to get rid of a good bit of the junk.

Just follow the steps and post a new log. One last step though at the end of the ewido scan (while still in safe mode) check every box in CCleaner under the windows tab except the advanced options and then click run cleaner. Do that in safe mode before you reboot into normal mode to make a new log.

I'm still getting the warning from ZoneAlarm that Aurora wants to access the internet, and I also recieved a warning about svcproc from Microsoft Anti-Spyware I think.
nail.exe and aurareco.exe do not appear in the task Manager list of processes any more.

That's because you did not run HijackThis and click Fix Selected on this line:
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
These also need to go:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vffeizg] C:\WINDOWS\System32\keappsf.exe r
The above is a virus/malware, you were told to remove it.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PopUpStopperFreeEdition] "C:\PROGRA~1\PANICW~1\POP-UP~1\PSFree.exe"
A useless piece of trial software, told to remove. Why is it still here?
O4 - Global Startup: Exif Launcher.lnk = C:\Program Files\Exif Launcher\QuickDCF.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: ZoneAlarm.lnk = C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zonealarm.exe
Zonealarm should start via registry, not Start > Programs > Startup

aurareco is now no longer a running process according to Task Manager and HijackThis, and neither is Nail.exe, yet I still keep getting a message from Zone Alarm asking if I will let Aurora access the internet - it's not giving me any pop-ups (yet)
I'm having trouble locating the directory to manually delete C:\DOCUME~1\CURRYS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\QRK\aurareco.exe, in LOCAL SETTINGS there is no TEMP directory.
