This is a really annoying problem I've had for some time. Most of the time when I play a game in full screen, my monitor starts making a really high pitched noise that is VERY annoying to the ears. I've looked around for solutions on google, and most of them said to increase or decrease the monitor's refresh rate, but when I go to do that, my monitor only has 1 refresh rate, and there are no options to change it. Any help on fixing this problem would be awesome.

One tiny note: On one of the games that I play, called CounterStrike 2D, I start getting the noise when someone throws a flashbang and the whole screen goes white for a few seconds.

It's a CRV Compaq FS7600

(Yes I still have a bulky CRV; I've never had the need for a flatscreen yet because this monitor has been perfectly good other than the noise.)

Thanks for the link Hazel, but that doesn't help much. My monitor refresh rate is already pretty low by default, 60 Hertz, but it doesn't cause any flickers. The article says the noise is caused if the refresh rate is too high, and that doesn't apply to me.

My monitor is 15 inch by the way.

You said it only had one refresh rate so that's why I posted that link.

Are you able to swap the monitor (with a friends ) just for a test to make sure it's not the graphics card. However i read a post on another forum that said

CRT monitors use a high voltage transformer that can make a high pitched 'whistle' sound when their laminations come loose or other parts of the HV circuit vibrate.

Perhaps it may be an indication that you may have to save up your pennies to get a new one :)

Yep, that's what I'm thinking about doing too. Plus, I don't like CRV's at all; too bulky and too fat. I think I'm going to get a new flatscreen in a few weeks. Thanks for the help Hazel! :)

My first thought is its likley a hardware fault.
But you say you only have one refresh rate, are you sure you have the correct drivers installed for the graphics card and monitor?

I think I have the correct drivers installed. Anyway, I'm getting myself a new flat screen 22 inch monitor this Saturday.

Just ordered the new LCD 22 in. monitor today from Newegg. Oh man I cannot wait until it arrives, which will probably be on Monday. Check out the monitor: Clicky! It might not be the best, but it's certainly good enough for me! Plus, it got 5 stars and some very good reviews. :)

Similar issues are abundant in the now old Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (PS2 version), and Saints Row 2 (PS3 version) in that some explosions, or gun fire noises can remain in effect for a long time.
Complexity of incoherent design.
