I have a 1 terabyte 'Western Digital My Book Pro II' drive and I recently started getting delayed write fail messages in Windows. I installed the included diagnostics utilities and ran a test on my drive and one of the disks failed the SMART test.
My questions are:
Is there any way I can fix my drive or is it a lost cause?
What is the best/safest way to backup what is on there?
Should I just copy and paste all of files to a different drive or use a special program to do it?
Problem with my external Hard drive...

I'm not an expert in Hardware problems, but here's some info that may help:

I'm sure if any of the members have experience with this they'll chip in.
You can use a very good freeware application for transferring/backing up files:

Completely shutdown?
That is, shutdown and remove all power from all devices and power bricks for a 10 count and try again?
How about plugging that into another USB port? Some discover some ports will not work, but report "OK".
