Hi,

Every time I boot or log into my pc, I'm getting a window into c:/programfiles/common that contains helper.dll, helper.sig, _helper.dll and _helper.sig

I've run ccleaner, to no avail and have also created a hijackthis logfile. Shall I post it here?

Thanks,
Bendy

hello

Download Rooter.exe to your desktop
  • Then doubleclick it to start the tool
  • A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive%\Rooter.txt. Post that here

  • Download OTListIt2 to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Under the Custom Scans box at the bottom copy and paste this into it

    net services
    msconfig
    safeboot minimal
    safeboot network

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTListIt2.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Attempted to run OTListIt2, but it reached a point at which the bottom of the window read "Checking Manual Scans..." and it just hung there forever. I finally did ctrl-alt-dlt to see if the process was even still running, but it said that it was not responding.

Should I run it again or change my configuration?

Here's how it was configured (which matches, I think, your instructions).

Scan All Users = no
Output = Minimal output
Processes = Use SafeList
Services = Use SafeList
Drivers = Use SafeList
Standard Registry = Use SafeList
Extra Registry = Use SafeList
File Scans.File Age = 30 Days (Default value)
File Scans.Use Company Name WhiteList = Yes
File Scans.File Created Within = FileAge
File Scans.Files Modified Within = FileAge
LOP Check = Yes
Purity Check = Yes

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ben

Delete OTListIt2.exe, re-download it from the same link, and give it one more shot

Unfortunately, it's still hanging. This time, it hung when at the bottom it read: "Scanning Service: lanmanserver..."

Thoughts?

hello

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply.
By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

hello

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote

File::

Folder::
c:\program files\Common

Driver::

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

hello

Please download OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services

    :Reg

    :Files
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mst122.dll
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.

  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
