Yes. It's an HP laptop, about 8 months old. She was having problems connecting to the internet wirelessly (it was intermittent) and she had never updated anything, and didn't know what programs to install to do all the things that she wanted. She didn't have any music players, etc....

So I installed VLC player, flash for both ie and firefox, added a few extensions in firefox for her to remove ads, put in superantispyware, spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, antimalwarebytes, and ran them all....came up clean. She had had norton in it before, removed it, but she also had nod32 (conflict?) which i left.....defragged, ran ngtropt, and installed rocketdock (great with kids, you can lock it and they cant move all the icons around!).

It's all the same sort of stuff i do to mycomputers and other friends. Anyways, went to get on the internet and i couldnt access. I tried wirelessly, wired (same cord as the one on my laptop which i ensured was working) and i could not access the net. I figured maybe it's a problem with my home network as i have it configured to a static ip and a a set DNS so it might not have been able to hook up.

So she took the laptop home and tried it. Still cannot access the net via the browsers. Weird thing is (and i didn't notice this at my house, but i didnt try it) is that she can access the internet through her outlook email, msn messenger, itunes, etc.....everything except web browsers.........

Now I had noticed that the internet appeared to be hooked up on my system, i just couldnt access it via browsers (never thought to try msn....).

If you have any suggestions, I would totally appreciate it....would save a whole reformat........:)

Doubt its malware related

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Unzip SecurityCheck.zip and a folder named Security Check should appear.
  • Open the Security Check folder and double-click Security Check.bat
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
