Been using Defraggler since it first came out and like the program a lot. No problems with the program at all.

In all the different options to defrag, I have one file that won't defrag, pagefile.sys, and I'm guessing that since it's always open while the computer is open, it's not going to defrag. In my computer, it's in three separate chunks, and 759,808K large.

Question is, is there any way to move the file to the end via the large files option and to defrag it to put it back together?

Thanks for the welcome and the info Kenny. I downloaded the program, ran it once and now it's just two big pieces instead of three. I may try to do it again, but while doing it, I thought to myself, why the hell am I messing around with the most important file on my system ... when the system has been running well ... LOL.

I have noticed another issue with Defraggler, but I will post that up in a new thread.

If you are using Hibernate then it has its own file that can not be defragged.

Go to Control Panel then Power Options then Hibernate to see if it is enabled.

Hi guys,

Resurrecting an old thread here as it applies to my new inquiry. In doing recent defrags, I've noticed that some single blocks are showing up after doing ANY defrag option, which have no data or files in them. These "no file" flocks are impeding the defrag on larger files like my archive.pst file, which is 480 Megs large and I have since removed that, and other data files which I'm trying to move to the end of the hard drive.

Long story short, I can not combine the pagefile.sys file or any of the other larger files (since removed), because of these blocks with no files listed in them. Here's a JPG to show you what I'm talking about.

Any idea on how to remove these single emply blocks on the HD?

I also have another question, or maybe a suggestion. Why is it not possible to do a sort on the file lists, ie: file name, # of defragged bits of the file, or the size of the respective files ... during a defrag, and if this is not possible, when I pause the program? It's something I'd like to do.

TIA for any info you can provide on either subject.

You need to defrag freespace. Running CCleaner first is a good idea. Then open Defraggler -> Action -> Advanced -> defrag freespace.

Windows Live OneCare online scanner can also remove some of the light blue dots. It's a very fine offer Microsoft have there but it takes it's time. Go for a full scan. Among other things OneCare Live is a free online defragmenter! Note that there a separate link for Vista users: http://onecare.live....t.htm?mkt=en-au

Also Defraggler can do more in safe mode but it takes longer. I do it when I sleep! This is how:

1. Turn the power of -> start the PC and tab F8 quickly and again and again as soon as the PC is starting -> use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode -> tell the promts you want to stay in safe mode. Your PC's desk should now be black and have the words safe mode written in the corners.

2. Open defragler -> Settings -> shut down after defrag -> make sure you have a tick mark there -> start full defrag

3. Go to bed and sleep. Defragler will log you out and shut your PC down when it's done several hours later!

Thanks for the reply Epost, but as I mentioned, I've tried ALL variations of defragging to see if I could removed those empty blue blocks ... with no luck. They still show up. I'll try the live care option and see if that helps.

I use it a lot. It's a Microsoft official thing. There's some genuine advantage look-alike terms attached to it. And it works really well. A very nice free offer from good old MS...

I don't get it? The free OneCare online scanner is just as free as always. It was never on sale. No plans for discontinuing the free online scanner has been announced.

On the contrary: a new beta for Windows 7 has been opened. It's new name is: Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner. And it's free for all.

I didn't post that link. I posted a link to the Autralian OneCare online scanner and one to the main site.

PS: I don't think language settings matters. I once scanned with an English version one day I was sleepwalking on the internet. Nowadays it will usually switch to your own language by itself.
