Don't worry if you get stuck with a couple of bottles of beer and no opener

No worried there Kenny if the top won't come off.

Just fit the lid bit in a door frame (the hinge side) and close the door until it grips the lid tight, then twist.

Works everytime, but leaves tell-tale marks on the frame :)

Sort of reminds me of how we've always opened tight jars which are way too tight:
We give the lids a couple of light smacks on the kitchen floor to help break the seal, and then they open up very easily - all without some stupid gadget to open them.
Complexity of incoherent design.
