Okay... Where to start...

I am very careful about what gets onto to my system, but obviously not careful enough. I have what I think is a virus, and it is very strange. The other day I hopped on Google, entered my search and, in usual fashion, about 10 or so million websites were found. I was searching for data on crystalline solids by the way. So, I clicked on one that looked promising and what do I get? Walmart.com! Okay that was odd, so I click on another and it was a site about bath crystals. To make a long story short I checked out about 50 web sites, all supposedly information about crystalline structures, and all I get are web sites that are trying to sell things related to crystals. So I then searched the next thing that popped into my head which happened to Sony. So I clicked on SonyStyle.com, their U.S. sales site, and Walmart's TV department came up displaying Sony TV's! NO SEARCH ENGINES WORK! It's like passive adware. No pop-ups ever come up, but on ANY search engine I just get sales crap somewhat related to my search, no matter what I search for. Now it really gets strange. I wanted to download some anti-virus/spyware software so I figured I go with AVG. I type in www.grisoft.com and what do you know, "site not found." Then I try www.mcafee.com and hey "site not found." As you can guess, not a single website dealing with virus protection works. I managed to download AVG from a third party, but it just crashes when I start a scan! Please help!!!

Hello Tani357,

Posted ImageClick here to download HJTInstall.exe
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
