My computer was infected with the Trojan.Fakevalert, at least that is what Nortons called it. I scanned with Nortons, Bitdefender Online, and SuperAntiSpyware. My desktop background was taken over by it and I still cannot change it. Can you help me. The Bitdefender log was blank. Here the SuperAntiSpyware and Hijackthis logs (below). I appreciate all the help that you can give. Thank you, Kevin

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)
Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)
Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
- Restart your computer
- After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
- Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
- Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
- Choose your usual account.
- Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
- Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
- It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
- Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
- When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
- Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum). - Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Download Killbox from Here
Run Killbox by clicking the killbox.exe file on the desktop
In the Full Path of File to Delete window type (or copy and paste)
C:\SDFix\SDFix\backups\backups.zip
C:\SDFix\SDFix\backups\catchme.zip
C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSA.cpl
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VIE10.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VIE11.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VIE12.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VIE5.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VIE6.exe
Select the options Delete on reboot and Unregister .dll Before Deleting
Click the button: Single File and it should then flash green.
Then press the Delete File button (Red Circle with a White X).
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.
Your computer should reboot now.
---------
Download and install CCleaner if you dont have it already. You can download it here:
http://www.filehippo...nload_ccleaner/
After you install it open it up and press "run cleaner".
After that let me know how your computer seems. Is norton popping up anymore, are you getting pop ups, cant access stuff, anything out of the ordinary let me know.

Everything seams to be running fine. I appreciate the help. Also, would recommend another firewall over Norton's(free if possible)?
Thank you for all the help,
Kevin

I have links to a bunch of good free security software on my site there. Any of them should be better than norton.
If you choose to dump norton dont forget to get another AV as well. Here is a tool to remove norton since it can be hard to get rid of:

I always thought that Norton's is a good AV/Firewall. What is wrong with it?

Lots of people report that it slows down their computer or causes other kinds of issues.
I've just seen too many infected computers chugging along and norton not alerting them or not being able to fix the virus. Plus I dont feel your getting your monies worth compared to whats available for free(if its a home computer of course, the free ones cant be used for business).
Of course if you want to keep/like norton then there is no reason for you not to keep it.

At the moment, I am not that impressed with Norton. It was running when I received this trojan. I am thinking of going to Zone Alarm and I am not sure about the AntiVirus.
Thank you for all your help,
