I forgot to back up my registry and now none of my .lnk files will open. I tried to use the system restore feather on my Windows Xp sp2 system and it will only open a white blank background. This all started right after I used the CCleaner registry cleaner and noticed that it had found over 4000 supposed registry errors. Then I hit the fix all error button and sent my computer to hell. Please help me!!!

Well that was your first mistake. Why do you think it allows you to make a backup of what it removes from the registry? They are only small files a few Kb so they aren't going to swamp anything.

So your system restore doesn't do anything? Have you used system restore before? ;)

I wonder if you have tried chkdsk? From the start menu select run then type in chkdsk, I have found it quite good at recovering lost or orphaned files

also try to get updated to XP sp3..................................whiteknight.

ps. This morning I thought I'd check my copy CCleaner v2.10.618

I ran chkdsk before using it and after it again with some screen shots
