Hi Everyone!

I've found some odd things on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527; 1GB DDR RAM; Intel Pentium Dual Core processor; Intel Mobile 945 Chipset), and I need to know if I can do the following 'plan' without messing-up everything.

Download new versions of: JAVA
ADOBE READER
ADOBE MACROMEDIA FLASH
ADOBE SHOCKWAVE
ACTIVE X
(I'll download the above to my desktop for installation later)

Then I want to UN-install: 2 "DAMAGED" ACTIVE X CONTROLS
JAVA (ALL LISTED IN ADD/REMOVE)
ADOBE READER
ADOBE MACROMEDIA FLASH
ADOBE SHOCKWAVE
ACTIVE X
1 ENTRY THAT WAS IDENTIFIED ON-LINE AS "SPYWARE"

Then I want to RESTART my PC and Install all the downloads that I saved to my desktop.

Will I be able to RESTART my PC if I've removed Java, Flash, Reader, etc., (see the list above), or should I do the uninstalls and deletes........install the NEW downloads.......and then restart my PC???

In other words, can a laptop or desktop PC restart WITHOUT Shockwave, flash, adobe reader, java, etc.???

I KNOW there's something hiding on my PC because of the way it's acting, and I want to get things cleaned up and fixed before I end up losing important stuff. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to RESTART my PC if I re-boot in between steps like I normally do.

I have to do this for a few reasons, but mostly because I've been unable to play ANY of my games because of 4 different 'error messages' I get saying one of the following:
1) Shockwave.com has stopped working.
2) KeyholeDRM Application has stopped working.
3) Macromedia Projector has stopped working.
4) Game Launcher has stopped working.

Other signs of problems include:
1) my laptop freezes if I open Adobe Reader
2) I have NO CONTROL of my USB-mouse or touch pad
3) I 'lose' pages of typed text if I use the scroll wheel of my mouse, and/or the text I'm typing will
become 'highlighted' if I move the cursor over the text

There are a few other things, but I can't think of them right now. I just want to get a plan of action and clean this mess up before it goes on for too long. I've been e-mailing all companies whose downloads are affecting these problems; I've e-mailed and called tech support to Microsoft, Toshiba, etc., and I've Googled all the error messages I've gotten, and I found out that I'm not alone! This is a WIDESPREAD problem, and so far, none of the Game's distributors or anyone else knows how to fix it.

One of the "damaged" Active X controls that I found on my computer was indicated as having been "modified" on the EXACT DATE AND TIME THAT I RECEIVED MY FIRST ERROR MESSAGE!!!! (I found it on my C drive>Windows>System32>Macromedia Flash. The other 'damaged' Active X control was found when IE-7 was opened, click Tools>Internet Options>Settings>View OBJECTS. When I checked my notes, I had gone to MSN Games to play online on March 24, 2008, and that's when the Flash on my laptop was "modified". When I researched more, I found the actual "address" where it happened:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...t/ultrashim.cab

The other 'damaged' Active X is:

http://cdn2.zone.msn.com/binframework/v10/...gr.cab31267.cab

These two addresses are found on Google, too, and that's how I found my way to YOU!! I 'accidentally' found this forum last week when I was researching one of my medical conditions, "Piriformis Syndrome". I thought this was a support Forum for others who have it. (If interested, see my earlier posts.....this is really one of those mysterious, serendipitous meetings; I was looking for others with my physical prob last week.....this week, my laptop has 'malware' of some sort, and Google sends me to you again!!!)

Anyway, I'm sorry I babbled for so long, but I thought you might need as much info as possible, and I'm hoping that someone will be able to guide me through this mess.

Please use LOTS of details.....I'm a self-taught novice.

Thank you in advance for ANY help; especially if the "plan" I thought up will work....I'd like to know if my line of thinking is going in the right direction!

I especially want to thank EVERYONE who took the time to read my post. I promise to try to learn how to be 'brief' in the future Oh, BTW, I use TrendMicro Internet Security Pro 2008 for my AV/AS/Firewall/Internet Security program. I LOVE TrendMicro, and I've used it for 6 years.....I'm baffled why it didn't catch whatever is haunting my laptop, though. Oh well.

Bye for now!

Gratefully,
Nuts4Mutts :)

You did not mention what operating system you are running.

First download and un-install Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control then close all browser windows then run the un-install tool:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewConten...rnalId=tn_14157

Go to Add/Remove Programs and un-install ALL Sun Java installs.

Do the un-installs then reboot and the system should reboot without them but do not go to any Web site that needs them yet.

Install Flash Player:

Install Sun Java:

Reboot:

Run Secunia: Online Software Inspector:

Hello Nuts4Mutts,

In addition to what YoKenny has already said, if you believe you have a malware infection, please follow the instructions on this page, and start a new topic in this forum.

Hi All!

First, "THANK YOU" to YoKenny and RiP ChAiN for taking the time to read my WAY too long post! I tried to give as many details that I could think were important, and I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot to post my OS. DUH! Thanks for reminding
me about that, YoKenny....here's what I forgot:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, SP-1 Anti-Virus/Firewall/Anti-Spyware Program: TrendMicro Internet Security Pro 2008

To Rip ChAiN; Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the GREAT Tutorial with the step-by-step guide on how to use
"HiJack This". It's written so clearly that I have to say even I understood it!! I'm a self-taught Novice with only 6 years under her belt. I couldn't afford those VERY expensive Computer Classes that our local Community College offered, so I learned the basics by watching the now defunct, "TechTV" cable channel (shows like "Call For Help" with the Lockergnome himself, Chris Pirillo; "ScreenSavers" with Leo LaPorte); I'd read everything on their websites, then I'd go to Microsoft's site and read stuff in their Knowledge Base articles, and occasionally I'd ask my friends and my in-laws who used PCs at work every day
to explain things. It's really been a great learning experience for me, and I have SO MUCH MORE to learn it's not even funny.
I learn something new every day and the best part is finding nice, generous and caring 'friends' like all of you who are so willing
to share their knowledge with Novices like me. It's because of friends like you that I have the desire to keep on learning even
more. I'm so grateful for all the help you've given me.....I can't wait to follow your instructions and report in my next post that
my Laptop is free of whatever garbage is hiding on my C-Drive and is running like new!!

If you need any more info, please feel free to post again; if I know where to find the answer I'll post it right away.

Once again, "Thank You" to everyone who's replied to any one of my posts...I really appreciate it! I'll get started on the instructions you've given me and I'll keep you posted on my progress. Please say a prayer for me.....I'm still a bit nervous when problems like this come up. It's nice to know you're there in case I start to "chicken out"!
