I'm kind of a noob with this stuff. I have a lot of writing, artwork, and photos on my computer. if i run CCleaner, will it delete them? If so, what would you suggest?

Well, like most things, it depends. If you keep your most treasured files in some folder normally used to hold temp files (and you'd be surprised how many people do), then yes, you may lose some of them. If your files are in normal user folders then you should be perfectly safe.
I would suggest that you keep all your stuff in your own user folders, or my docs, my pictures, etc, and every now and again dump them to a cdr. Then run CC. You should be fine. I wouldn't use the registry cleaner until you have more experience and confidence - I hardly ever run it.
