So.
I ran CCleaner's reg and temp cleaners on my machine. I actually ran the reg cleaner several times, because for some reason it kept finding things with each scan.
Anyway, after it ran a scan and didn't find anything, I restarted. It gets to the windows startup screen (the one with the progress bar that moves back and forth), and then it bluescreens on me with the message:
--------------------------------
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
etc etc etc.
Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xBA4C3524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
----------------------------
So. Any Ideas? Is there any way to apply the registry backups without having the machine up and running?

Had you installed any new hardware earlier, had any virus problems?
Was this the first time you have used CCleaner?
I presume you are using XP.
Have you tried safe mode. last known good configuration?
If you have a windows cd you could always try a windows repair install which should leave your data intact
