My wireless Linksys internet signal and speed always used to be good. The signal was excellent and the speed was 54 mb. But now, starting a few days ago, my signal has really gone down and my internet speed is now always hanging around at 24 mb. What happened? Please help? My internet connection is really slow when the speed is hanging around 24 mb. :(

My signal strength keeps going up and down. My download speed is now even slower than dial-up. The speed is about 30 kb to 40 kb!

On topic: Try turning off and unplugging your router for about 1-5 minutes. Might have been upset my a random electrical surge.

Couple of points. I have had this problem and here is what i did.

Reset the router by pushing and holding the button down. I think it may be for about 15 seconds. When it starts flashing it means its done. Then turn off your router and modem, completely unplugging them. wait a minute. first plug in and then start the modem. if you are on dsl and get your internet through your telephone provider, wait till the signal is fully back to the modem. then plug in and restart the router. reset all inputs like user name, etc. and if you use a static ip, you can get help resetting it up at Portsforward.com which is an excellent site.

should solve your problem. if not, try seeing if you are in range. have you moved anything further from the router or computer. have you added cordless devices like phones, intercoms into the home? these could be interferring.

last but not least, make sure your security levels on your internet wireless are locked down. you could have someone else leeching on your signal and using up bandwidth which is slowing you. youd be surprised. i can see about 8 neighbours wireless networks, and three of them are unsecured, meaning i could access them if i wanted to. not safe, not legal, not good. but it happens. just an fyi.

post back and let us know if any of these suggestions have helped, and if not, whatever you figure out let us know. we may have the same problem sometime. good luck! :)
