A while back my server offered their firewall & virus protection, so I thought why not, got it, installed it and was happy as a lark until I ran Spybot & it said "backweb lite" was found & that it was spyware. I got scared and ran Ad-aware 1.06 and it did not find anything. So I ran Spybot again and looked at what it said and it was my firewall & virus program that had "backweb lite" in it. I called the company and they never really said yes, never really said no, so I got rid of it and now just wonder. Is it or is it not spyware?

Thanks for your comments,
Normandie

Backweb lite is not spyware, but it is a privacy risk. This is why Spybot detects it, but doesn't checkmark it by default [as it does with other, more serious, spyware]. Same thing with Weatherbug. it's not spyware, it's just ... annoyware.

Greenuser,

Yes I agree since I have used Spybot & Ad-Aware plus CCleaner it has really made my computer run like new. I think that those are programs that everyone should have!

Have a good day & thanks,
Normandie

SpywareBlaster (will keep you very clean): http://www.javacools...areblaster.html. It's free and very easy and does complicated things for you; like keeps a "snapshot" of your system to help recovery in case of problem, (if you wish it to). You don't have to search with it - it keeps spyware out. You must update very regularly of course. Spybot and Ad-Aware are pretty redundant for me since SpBl but I still run them to be sure. CCleaner and the support is first class! And they support your brain too! How about that? Take care, greenuser. ;)

I treat it as spyware even if it isn't, I immediately give it the boot. Many years ago when BackWeb started showing up the same question popped up "is it spyware."
Complexity of incoherent design.

Andavari,

Your reaction is mine, when I saw it I got rid of it and then asks the questions. What really got me was when the company that rented it, it was on a month to month basis, the software would not give me a "yes or no", I figure that means they are hiding something, so since there are a lot of GOOD choices out there I did not have to deal with them and their unknown. So for me it got classed as "spyware".

Thanks & have a good day,
Normandie
