This is more of a nuisance than anything, but just in case it's more than that -

I recently installed Process Manager (sysinternals.com), CCleaner and Avast! anti-spyware on the same day. Since then, Windows XP is demanding a password when I turn on my laptop. I went to the Control Panel/User Accounts to change my logon, but after clicking on "Change the way users log on or off", I got a box with the following message:

"A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features, you must uninstall the program. The following file name might help you identify the program that made the change: C:WINDOWS\system32\BCMLogon.dll"

I have uninstalled Process Manager, which I thought was the most likely culprit since MS took them over (and because I still couldn't identify if stuff that was running was because it should be or I had a problem). I'm still getting the same error message when I try to change my logon procedure.

I really don't want to uninstall CCleaner and Avast! because I'm using them and this really is more of a nuisance than anything else. But does anybody know how to reset my logon so that I can just get the Welcome screen and not have to do the password demand? I'm the only person using this laptop and I can't see how having to logon with a password could help anybody trying to use my computer maliciously through my wireless connection and a keylogger or other malware. Then again, it could, so please help. Yes, I have SP2 and SP3 - don't think I had a problem after installing SP3, but am a little fuzzy as to when that one happened.

Welcome Anne.

I have two XP systems and only I use them with one being XP Home and the other XP Pro.

Humpty's tip is good but what I found was to completely disable Fast User Switching as it does take a bit of RAM to have it installed and therefore a waste of system resources.

The key to disabling it is to un-check Use the Welcome screen check box referenced in:
