Hi.

I am running windows XP home that is fully up to date inc. SP3.

I ran an issues scan using CCleaner & think I have deleted most of or maybe all of my file associations?
If I try to run any programme or software it just says windows does not recognise the file type & do I want to search the web or browse my computer to open it with something.
I have tried using the 3 back-up files created, but they aren't recognised either & I don't get the option to merge. They are saved as .reg files. I even tried to re-save them using notepad, but they are still not recognised.
What should I try next? I read on another thread about the reg file associations needing restored!!
P.S. I have tried system restore & it isn't recognised either.

Thanks if you can help.

You can get a fix from the link below:

You can download a BAT file (zipped) that will restore all of the "default" associations that XP ships with. It will not restore those file associations created by 3rd party applications.

Hope this helps.

Hi there.

I just want to say a BIG thank-you to you all as this worked perfectly. Everything seems to be back to normal now including all my desktop icons etc. After following your instructions I was even able to get the back-up logs created by CCleaner to merge & work too. Your time & effort was very much appreciated.

Cheers.

I had forgot about those fixes. The .ico fix should work for fixing what IcoFX would damage in it's previous 1.6 version where it would damage .ico in the registry. Of course the newest 1.6.1 version fixes that.
Complexity of incoherent design.
