Among them, the company said earlier this month it will keep selling a version
of XP for use on new, low-cost computers, such as Intel’s Classmate PC, through
at least June 2010. Such computers are designed mainly for word processing,

e-mail and Web surfing.
Without Vista drivers, it's 2001 all over again Vista new ME
PS it not me that said Vista is the new ME :o :o

the major trouble was Micro$oft and their way of doing things. constant updates to updates, all the flaws in Internet Explorer and now the creation of windows Vista ( or as i like to call it "windows ME part 2").

Why exactly Vista sucks? Because of the new graphics API? Perhaps you don't like kernel patch protection, mandatory integrity control or address space layout randomization? Vista introduced the biggest revamp the NT-platform has ever seen. It's undisputable that Vista is more secure platform than XP. Of course increased system requirements are the tradeoff of all this. But historically one driving force for OSDev has been the need to utilize the ever-increasing hardware resources.

I like ME and still use it.

It will be about 6 months before I can afford a Vista capable system as I have just completed my tax return and I owe almost $700.00 :(

Ouch! I got more then twice that back. I wouldn't be all super hyped to go get a Vista system though. I would still prefer xp.

I can't remember the last time I received a tax refund. What are you guys writing off to get refunds. Than again I don't pay taxes during the year since I don't have "earned income". All my income is investment income and doesn't get taxed until I file my returns. Even when I was a slave to the grind and working I didn't get a refund unless I maxed out my RRSP.

Three kids, a wife that works part time, high union dues, high pension contributions, rrsps, and lots of tax throughout the year. :P
