How do I gain access to F:\System Volume Information\ files on a WinXP system SP2?
I've got spyware there and I can't get it out.
I found the malware with AVAST
AVAST can't get it out.
I've used a-Squared scanner/cleaner
I've used (paid for) TrueSword scanner/cleaner
What can I do?
I'm the Adminster on my computer but these nasties are impervious to me.
Help!
How do I gain access to F:\System Volume Information

Hello tokorotim
A computer's restore points on Windows XP can't be easily modified or deleted, the most common and known way to rid restore points of malware is to completely turn System Restore off, and then back on again. However, there is a danger to doing this, if your computer is still infected with malware and you do this, you will have no restore points to go back to in the case something goes terribly wrong with your system.
If I may, I would suggest making a new topic in the Spyware Hell - HijackThis Log Analysis forum here, and I or someone else would be happy to further assist you in your problems.
Here is a way to do this a little bit safer, if you must get this done quickly. Please don't lightly shrug off the risks of doing this, though.

The easiest and safest way to do this is:
- Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
- Choose the radio button marked "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next". Give the R.P. a name then click "Create". The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.
- Then go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr
- Click "OK".
- Click the "More Options" Tab.
- Click "Clean Up" in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.
