A thought-try using the XP System Restore. Go back a week or so before the attempt to load the program. See if that fixes things. Even if it does then do the following:

CCleaner will try to remove the program in question. You will also want to look for the program's folder and delete it. Not knowing your level as a user, I won't explain how to edit the Registry (it is an Expert function). The Registry cleaner has not done anything nasty to me in the years I have used CCleaner. Tread caefully-whatever you do.

Hello kensync,
Maybe this will help.
Just be sure you look in that folder and make sure you don't have any other games in there.
I am not an Expert, yet. You can become an Expert also.Read and learn.Make some mistakes.

Hi kensync, and welcome to the forum.

Once you have that sorted, here's a nice little chess program (free), which once downloaded, runs from a simple exe file. In other words it doesn't "install" fully into your operating system. Easy to get rid of, but still a cracking little program.

Slow Chess:

Comes with a comprehensive on-line help file. (Double click the help.htm file in the downloaded folder).

To run program, just double click the slow.exe file in the same folder.

thanks but i don't want to make a mistake that will result in me having to reformat my pc...coz i know registry is where all those dll stuff are....and the file deletion thing seems like it would leave some errors...it's just that I have a lot of files and i can't risk having to reformat...thanks for the help though...if you can still help that'd be great =)

If the info Davey gave in the screenshot is correct you can do no harm just deleting the Chessmaster folder in Program Files (the only harm you'll do is to that chess program itself which, as were trying to get rid of it, is exactly the intention)
