I understand the comments after the 127.0.0.1 badhost.com entry but its the comments that begin in column one that I am asking about.

How?
By the way, I use HostsMan to update the MVPS HOSTS file and I found a setting to not include comments so I'll try that next time that there is an update with the MVPS HOST file.
