LS 2007 users may use the web update feature to obtain this latest

I have SE Free and cannot get update to work. I get a message saying Ad Aware has not been updated for 31 days. I go to up date and I get an error message saying I cannot connect.
What's up with that?

Just put that file from a zip to C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\ folder. Overwrite the existing defs.ref file.

You cannot use the auto update feature with SE anymore. You have to download defenitions file manually from the link siljaline gave. http://download.lava...public/defs.zip

Would you then recommend dumping SE Free and using the 2007 version?
Does that update without doing it manually?

It is not known at this point in time how long Lavasoft will provide support for manual updates of SE.

With the exception of two tracking cookies, this product has not found anything on my computer for months. So after I updated, I started looking elsewhere and downloaded AVG Anti Spyware which immediately found loads of tracking cookies including Downloader.Agent.hym. I have to wonder if Ad-Aware was doing anything besides making the computer whir a little.

I've been using the 2007 free version and it updates fine, but when it has a software update and not just a definitions update it goes nuts. Get error messages and have had to use the Windows restore function once or twice. I'm dumping it and using Super Anti-Spyware.

I have been hearing too many reports of Ad-Aware 2007 causing serious problems and I won't touch it with a 50 foot pole. I recently started using Sandboxie and these type of apps are going to be the way to go IMO. I will use Ad-Aware SE free for the occasional scan because I already have it installed until they stop providing the manual updates.

I wouldn't run LS 2007, either - but you've to give them some credit to make a better scaning engine. Let's hope LS get's it right one of these days.
