I installed and ran CCleaner today, using Vista Home Premium. A while later, I was in my Documents folder and inadvertently clicked on the registry backup file, which--in Vista--automatically restores all values in the file to the registry. Here is what I have since then:

My mouse cursor jumps and quivers constantly. All of my desktop and Start Menu item icons are gone, and replaced by a picture of a computer. None of the programs will start when they are clicked on from the desktop or the Start Menu. I am obviously able to get on the Internet and get email. I did a System Restore, but it came back as incomplete. I selected another date and did another System Restore, but that came back the same way. I do not know what I need to do next to restore my registry to what it was before this occurred. Any help would be much appreciated.

All is resolved--I had to do System Restore in safe mode twice before the errors went away.

Thanks for following up with your post. This helps us NEWBIES learn how to handle some of these problems ourselves. Gee I never accidentally clicked on something I shouldn't have. :o :(

Thanks again, DAVE
