Just a quick question before I download. I have read the Tour, explaining CCCleaner. Am I understanding correctly that my photographs won't be at risk for deletion? How does it know what to erase and what to leave alone?

CCleaner works by having specific directories programed into that are safe to clear all files in.(it simply empties specific folders that you can decided on by checking/unchecking). As long as your pictures are not in one of those folders you should be fine(its always a good habit to put pictures in the my pictures folder, music in the my music folder, ect).

I would back up your pictures to cd/dvd if you are really worried about it(thats a good habit to have anyway. :) )
