I friend was doing a clear out and he found an un-opened copy of Norton Antivirus 2002 which he had never got round to using. Just wondering if this old version is still support? e.g updatable.

Should be. All DAT files get updated in older versions unless they say there's a cutoff.

100% still useable (and probably more stable than 2005), and Norton products prior to 2004 "suffer" from a "bug":

1) Install Norton
2) Use it for 365 days
3) Uninstall Norton
3) Delete Catalog.livesubscribe (or whatnot)
4) Install Norton
5) Poof, a new catalog.livesubscribe appears

Will his copy of norton stay up to date (I know it will have updates but will it have all of the definintions of the 2005 version)? Also DJ are you saying if I have a copy of norton that is from before 2004 I can just reinstall it to renew my subscription?

Cool, I noticed it doesn't have a serial key meaning I can re-install it next year? :D

I mean if I install it now, use it for 365 days then when it expires, I could uninstall (and remove all traces) and reinstall and have another 365 days of updates? :P

Does Norton 2002 still allow liveupdate? Also can I reinstall it to keep getting subscriptions? Is there an echo in here?

Well, his license is probably expired I guess, but if he never used it, then maybe its not expired yet.

However, Norton AntiVirus really slows down the system and eats tons of CPU power and memory.

Personally, I use AntiVir on 3 of 4 computers at home, it's very simple, it doesnt contain any huge bloated interface with skins and crap. It's just a plain simple good AntiVirus software. It also free (as in beer).

http://www.free-av.com/

It exists for Windows, Linux, Open/Free BSD and Solaris.
It's only 6,3 megabyte and it works great.
