Noticed a couple of discussions on the forum today about broadband/dial up speeds. So I thought lets start up a thread an see what everyone is getting, and for how much.

I got 8Mb/1Mb ADSL connection. My Telewell ADSL card software (ADSL Diagnostic Tools) shows: UP:896, DN:8064. I pay 49€ a month.

Those speedtests are not very reliable. You get different results, with different tests and results may vary using same test.

I'm on 1MB/256KB and tested get around 990Kb/240 (tested now on that site gave 996/242).
Costs £9.99 per month on AOL (Yes AOL, and its absolutely solid and not a trace of AOL software on my computer ;) )

Actually, as far as my knowledge goes and what I have heard, Speedtest.net is one of the more accurate internet speed test websites out there.

Before you go out and say it's not reliable, you should at least post some proof as to why it isn't.

I've tested numerous times, never had a result vary.

Not in the slightest.

*EDIT* I'm not saying it couldn't vary, testing from the same location, but I've never had it happen.

Results seems to vary every time i use that test (with same server).

I don't trust a bit of those online speed tests. Of course they give you some hint about speed.

Anyway, here's my results with the recommened server (recommened server is in Tallinn (Estonia), even though i live in Finland):

But like i said, results vary every time. This was the highest speed so far.

Just tried again with the same server and here's the results. As you can see, they vary quite a lot!

I'm getting ripped off, believe me. lol I have Road Runner Lite - my download speed is 484kbps and my upload is 121kbps. I pay 32 dollars a month, but will be switching to DSL which is probably close to 3 times faster and will cost me 10 bucks less.
I'm here. What are your other two wishes?

Not the fastest in the world, but for £20 a month with TalkTalk (The Carphone Warehouse), I get unlimited Local and National telephone calls (landlines), and the Broadband is FREE.

Hoping to be increased in the not too distant future up to about 8mbs.

I wasn't the one who stated they weren't reliable to begin with so start reading the whole threads. Doing the tests on multiple sites always give something totally different:

* http://us.mcafee.com...ter/default.asp

If you have anymore advice, I'm willing to let it go in one ear and out the other as well. :P

All it states from Qwest is 1.5mb connection with up to 256kb download, but it's nowhere near that in actuality.

Edit: I forgot to mention something I watched on the news last month. It mentioned the state I live in Iowa has some of the slowest ISP's around that aren't the advertised speed - and how upset consumers are about it.

Not to bad considering I don't live in a large city, "North East Victoria" and the nearest test server site is in "Canberra"

Alright, first off.. I did read the whole thread. Thanks for assuming I didn't.
Second, you basically did say they weren't reliable by (pretty much) backing up the fact that someone else said they weren't.
Third off, I've tested on at least 5 sites and all of them have come back within 10-50 kb/s off.

In any event even my slow Qwest DSL is better than the dial-up I had just last year.
