Since this morning I'v been getting AVG anti-virus tripping every time I open a browser window, and at various other obscure times as well. It detects hanonvt.ini in C:\windows\system32 as a Trojan Horse Downloader.Agent.RPX. After much faffing about with my usual tools and getting nowhere in particular, I looked at this site (having been bailed out of something nasty back in the Spring by one of the experts). I started working my way through the Malware Removal guide, and by the end of it, my problem has gone...

I think it's probably worth summarising here what I did, because I had a slight variance from the guide that might be worth knowing...

First off, I ran BitDefender and SuperAntiSpyware and saved the reports.

Next, I had a bit of a detour as the malware guide said to run AVG Anti-Spyware, but the link was the AVG Anti-Virus site, so I managed to reinstall my AV software before I worked out the link was wrong. So I went off to the Grisoft free software page and downloaded the right one. That got run as per the guide and reported.

Final task was to run HijackThis and report the log here with the previous three. This is where I got a bit daring... Earlier on today, before reading the malware guide, one of the tools I used was HijackThis, and tried to fix the problem using it, but the program fell over with an error. The malware guide says download the current version (mine was left over from the Spring problem) so I did, and it ran and reported. But, before reporting here, I thought I'd just have one go at fixing it using the latest version of HijackThis and it worked, it removed it and no failure.

Whether it's simply the latest version of HijackThis that sorted it, or the full series of tools, I'm not sure. If anyone wants to venture an opinion or would like any of the logs, they are more than welcome to them...

Main thing is... it's gone, and I could do it myself working from the guide, so many thanks for that!
