Hey---I'm using my neighbor's laptop because I'm watching their dog---I fixed their other one up, but this is a Vista machine. It's a Toshiba Satellite, with 1GB of RAM and Vista Home Premium. I believe a lot of background process are running - is there anything I can remove so it will run faster....it is averaging about 70% RAM usage all the time. Here's the log...

Get rid of mcafee and disable all of the toshiba programs except the power saver and the hotkey utility.(those 2 are actually useful)
Oh and disable this too:

Its a dumb volume control thing that eats like 20mb of ram.

Are you saying to delete everything that says Toshiba, minus the Button and Power Saver thing?

I'm going to download AVG Free, but I won't install it. I'll ask them before I remove it.

I know what you mean, but these are the type of people who would have to bring the computer back to Best Buy and pay Geek Squad to get their computer working... lol...I've already done it once before, I they didn't' mind.

No, just disable them from running at start up. I dont know if autoruns works with vista or not though. Its worth a shot:

Just open autoruns, go to the start up tab and then disable all the stuff you dont want to run.
