anyway to convert aac music files to mp3? tried a couple free programs, but with no success.

Try Media-Convert first that should be the easiest but I don't know if it does AAC or not you'll just have to find out, if that doesn't work try Foobar2000.

Foobar2000 would be the light and easy way. You'll of course have to download and unzip LAME (lame.exe) into the Foobar2000 program folder, then just right click the AAC's then choose Convert->Run Conversion->then choose LAME

iTunes can also do it, if you don't mind it being so bloated.

Edit:
If they're DRM protected AAC's your out of luck, and would instead have to burn an audio CD, then rip that to MP3.
