Cleaning aplications

I've just downloaded CCleaner and its found 179mb of stuff to delete on my fairly new laptop.
Under the Applications tab it lists in the left hand pane things like my antivirus (AVG 7.0), Windows messenger, Adobe Flash Player, Windows Media player, and even Office XP, plus a few more.

What does it look for in these applications?
