Ok, I did something really stupid- I had a "million" different icons on my desktop some were MP3s, some were pictures, some were links to pages on the web- you get the idea.

After I ran ADaware on my machine and discovered that alot of the bad stuff that it was finding was already in my Recycle Bin I "took out the trash" I figured since CCleaner was conveniently located in the sub-menu for the Recycle Bin that it couldn't hurt to click the "Run CCleaner" option to clear out the temp files, cookies, cache etc. - but as well as taking that, it took nearly all my icons off the desktop... the only ones it spared was some free music editing programs. Because I had some spyware issues earlier I have disabled the system restore feature! (it had copied itself into my system restore files)

The shortcuts to needed programs are no big deal; I can make more. But what about my pictures and Mp3's and such?
Is it all gone for good? There's nothing in the recycle bin to recover and some of these were only resident on the desktop
:o

CCleaner can't wipe your desktop clean...

So maybe there is still other prevalent spyware/virus not detected.

As for recovering your files:
There are recovery programs search Google, add the word "freeware" to the search as well.
You can also try piriform's (creator of CCleaner) recuva program to restore the deleted music/pictures.
