Personally, I don't find these Ads at all intrusive, but hey, pays (pun!) to be informed.

Maybe I'm missing the point but why not just use adblock/hostfile/iespyad/opera block/ or whatever?

This will take care of many Google adverts.
Complexity of incoherent design.

Adblock does it fine for me.
