Sorry but this was just another thing that just shows how screwed up in the head most of the Japanese are, not all but most. Sorry but they just are!!

When I lived in Japan in the early 80's, this is how the best sushi houses operated. I remember there being way more than one kind of fish in the tanks. If you wanted fresh sushi, and the fresher the better, this was the way to go. The tanks typically weren't visible to the patrons unless they wanted to have a peek, but that was the equivalent of looking up at a famous skyscraper walking around Manhattan - you were considered a tourist or a newbie. Still pisses me off that sushi here in the US costs five times or more what it did there.
