So, let me first explain the problem. This is my moms DELL and it's pretty new. I installed the McAfee trial on it a long time ago and it was way over the free 30 days, so it was useless. I uninstaled it today. Then the IE (IE7) started to direct me to http://go.microsoft....k/?LinkId=74005 which redirects me to http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx which is displayed as just a blank blue page. It looks like there should be some settings for me to select or something, since the top bar of the the IE says select settings or something, but the page is blank. Then if I click the home icon it goes to my homepage. It does this every time I open IE and only since I uninstaled McAfee. For awhile it was askign for a .dll file and saying I didn't have an internet connection. Firefox works just fine. I searched these two links and the two .dll files online and everything directs my to a hijacking or spyware and ways to fix it but nothing works.

Here is what I've done:
Installed Symantec AntiVirus and Full Scan
Installed Ad-Aware SE Personal and Full Scan
Installed Spybot Search & Destroy and Full Scan
Installed Windows Defender and Full Scan
Installed CCleaner and Cleaned/Fixed Registry
Windows Updates
Scanned in Safe Mode

Viruses where found but nothing fixed the problem. I then moved on to useing RegCure and other free Reg cleaner programs but they all want money to finish the job and I don't even know if they will fix it so I don't want to pay for one just yet. I'm thinking I might just put the windows cd in and tell it to repair.

What do you think?

Run both of the below scans. Do not run them at the same time.
Post back both logs. :)

Download AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Load AVG antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan
  • Ewido will list any infections found on the left, when the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG antispyware will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file which you can then save to the Desktop and post back
Note that this is not AVG antivirus but the program formally known as Ewido.

Run Kaspersky WebScanner
  • Please go HERE and click Kaspersky Online Scanner
  • Read and Accept the Agreement
  • You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • If you see a Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the Install button.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files,
  • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button becomes available, please click on it.
  • Click on the Scan Settings button, and in the next window select the Extended database, and click Ok.
  • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
  • When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window.
  • Paste kaspersky log onto forum.

I downloaded AVG and ran it, it found nothing. I try'd that online scanner but it didn't work with firefox. So I did it in IE7 , which is still directing me to that page, and it wouldn't open the window when I clicked the scan button, I don't have pop up blockers. I don't know what to do, I guess I have to do a windows repair.

NOT YET! :P
Go to start>control panel>add/remove programs. Scroll down untill you see Internet Explorer 7 and choose to uninstall it.
Then once its done reboot and then try to reinstall it.(or you can keep IE6 if you want. IE7 is more secure though.)

Sorry for the slow reply.
Did you reformat already or do you still need help? I can give some more things to try if you want. :)

No problem. I didn't reformat yet, I haven't had the time. Anything else to try would be awesome. :)

Open internet explorer and go to tools> internet options>advanced tab> and press reset.
See if IE will work then.
