Removing all Piriform products

Yesterday I was notified of a new update to CCleaner.  Since I have been using the product, as well as Defraggler, Recuva and Speccy for some time, I clicked on the download button.  As the download started, Norton started going NUTZ with warnings about Trojans and malware (I sent the report yesterday to your company but no response).  The response that I did get was an advertisement for updating CCleaner.  Now I find out that your UPDATE not only triggered several warning but has installed several programs that have taken over my Internet Explorer.  What they HECK PEOPLE!!!  Are you turning into one of those MAKE MORE PROFIT and the customer be dammed companies?  I just tried to supply you with the Resolved Security Risks report but the warning says it's too big for your site to upload.  I am in the process of removing the search engine that removed my home page and replaced it with yours.  I will search for any other hidden programs that you people installed without my knowledge.  And I did read the privacy infor and declined any products offered on the download to include Astromedia.

Where did you download CCleaner from?

Often when people go to a download site instead of Piriform.com they can very easily get tricked into clicking the wrong thing such as an advertisement banner that says 'Download' on it which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual CCleaner download.

Also when not downloading from Piriform.com you could end up with a fake/rip-off version which could contain adware and malware.

Hapster when you say you were notified of a new update for CCleaner.... who or which program notified you?

Where did it take you to get the update?

Where did you initially download CCleaner from?

What is your default browser?

Without someone like you giving us the info we need, it's hard to get it looked into.

Just submitted this information in my last post.  The only thing I didn't include was when I was notified and that happened two days ago when I opened CCleaner and got the usual popup stating that a newer version was available.  That's the only time I get the update.  When I clicked on the update button, it took me to the Piniform website.  The only thing it didn't do, that it normally does was start the install.  That I had to do from the "Which version - Free or pay" page on your site.

I have used CCleaner back when it first came out many years ago and several computers ago.  Every time I get a new computer, I down load it directly from Piniform.  I did used to go the Hippo many years ago.  My default browers is IE 11.0.12 that came with this NEW machine.

FileHippo either had or has advertisements that confuse people into downloading the wrong thing which was discussed on the forums here awhile ago. That and the practices of other download sites is why we commonly ask people "where did you download it from" since it's becoming a very common trend nowadays for download sites to display ads with the "download" text written in it that has absolutely nothing to do with the software people actually want to download.

The correct name is Piriform with an "r", not an "n".

Is some sort of browser hijack possible ?

Yes Alan, now rule 10 yourself to help immediately

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

There is a very good chance that Alan_B is correct. It's no small coincidence that Piniform.com is a registered website. Check out these two links:

Most if not all Piriform variations "Piniform", "Piliform" etc are registered and redirected to Piriform. This is to prevent / reduce chances of hijacking through like named sites.

Hope that clears any worries up :)
