PiriFan
Hello, I love your CCleaner product and thank you for doing such a great job. However it would be great if you could provide more details regarding new features that are extremely vague. I never even heard of "MFT" before, and I tried searching the term and didn't find anything relating to a PC term. Could you please explain what the new MFT clearing option does? Thanks. Winapp2.ini
MFT stands for Master File Table. Its essentially an index that points to every file on an NTFS drive (which is what makes files recoverable as well as readable.) winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
PiriFan
OK thanks. Yeah I just remembered that years ago I found a good site on tips to speed up Windows XP and I disabled that option.

Moderators Andavari Posted January 16, 2010 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2010 I never even heard of "MFT" before Any search engine would have a galore of docs for you to read about it. Microsoft's answer, just one of them they have. And if you want to defrag the MFT read this from Microsoft. See what Wikipedia has on it here. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 CCleaner v2.27 CCleaner While you await the holiday season or the New Year, we've got a release of CCleaner chock full of new features, updates and fixes. Read on. Security Features CCleaner now supports secure wiping of MFT free space for NTFS drives. The Master File Table (MFT) contains an index of the files on an NTFS drive. As the computer overwrites and deletes files, the MFT can accumulate free space which may contain remnants of index pointers to deleted files. You can now set CCleaner to wipe the MFT free space, just as you have been able to set it to wipe free drive space. To set CCleaner to wipe MFT free space: 1. In CCleaner, click the Options button. 2. On the Options pane, click Settings. 3. In Settings, make sure that Wipe MFT Free Space is selected. The full change log is listed below: CCleaner v2.27.1070 * Added support to Wipe MFT Free Space. * Added cleaning for Windows Explorer breadcrumb bar. * Added cleaning for Opera beta versions. * Added option to turn off CCleaner jumplist tasks on Windows 7. * Added menu option to Registry Cleaner to add key to exclude list. * Improved support for SeaMonkey 2.0. * Improved Windows 7 Taskbar progress accuracy. * Improved minimize to system tray functionality across all platforms. * Improved Opera cleaning by including opcache and temporary_downloads folders. * Improved performance of Compact database routines. * Improved Wipe Free Space code to avoid locks. * Improved security when deleting files. * Minor GUI and interface improvements. * Minor bug fixes. Click here to visit the CCleaner.com site and to download Season's greetings from everyone at Piriform! I have gone to the options and then to the setting like it said to and there is nothing to select for WFT. To set CCleaner to wipe MFT free space:1. In CCleaner, click the Options button. 2. Moderators Augeas Posted January 16, 2010 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2010 It's a stand-alone box underneath the Wipe Free Space box that lists the drives you have. At least it is on my pc. I've no idea why you don't appear to have this box, unless you're running an O/S that doesn't use NTFS. An older laptop using FAT32, perhaps? Later edit - I've tested this and XP on a FAT file system still shows the Wipe MFT box, so that theory's out of the window.
Moderators DennisD Posted January 16, 2010 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2010 I wonder if your CCleaner window has been foreshortened for some reason. If so just click and hold and drag the bottom of the window down a bit. CCleaner will remember the size and position.
