So I have recovered thousands of photos. I just realized how to get the ignored ones. My issue is that many show up and i can transfer them over but they are just icons, but i know some data must be there. I assume some places in video would be blank or partial frames, and that's fine but i would like to get what i can, maybe half of the photo or something. But what program can I use to open these and see what is in there? I got a few good ones but I am sure some are nott that bad but i just cant open them and see. What program should I be using?

Thanks alot guys, and i love this program it really is amazing. going to try to recovery some pictures from my phone too.

Videos:

* Avidemux (free) - http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

You can view, edit out bad corrupt parts, etc., and re-encode/transcode. It can fix some videos, but only if it can properly open/import them.

* VLC Media Player (Free, Install Version) - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

* VLC Media Player Portable (Free, Portable Version) - http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable

It can play the videos and also re-encode/transcode them. "May work for playback of damaged/corrupt videos."

That Avidemux program I mentioned is an editing and encoding program, "you might get by having it re-save the video to fix headers, etc." However if the videos are corrupt even an editing program may have issues.

As for another free editing/encoding program there's also VirtualDub Portable:

The replies above seem to answer where to go for video help but the original question was also concerning viewing any recovered photos which is my problem. According to Recuva, the state of my recovered pics is excellent, format is JPG yet nothing on my Windows 8 OS software wise seems to work in opening it?

Any advice most welcome

I understand the EXCELLENT means :-

1.  It has not been over-written by a subsequent file which is still present and available and known to exist in the same clusters,

BUT it might also mean

2.  it has been overwritten by another wile which has subsequently been deleted and is no longer known to have once used those same clusters.

I assume the above applies to both NTFS and FAT32 format.
