You have to be a bit careful with registry cleaners, and Tuneup is probably a good piece of software, although I've never used it. Unless you know what you're doing, some cleaners can be a bit too aggressive and could cause you problems. IMHO, I would just stick with CCleaner for now. They cause more problems than they are worth.(one wrong deletion and windows wont boot... not worth the risk for an almost or completely unnoticeable optimization if you ask me.) I use CCleaner's issues scanner when I uninstall software and thats about it. Been a couple years now and zero problems. I will have to say that I got a trial of registry mechanic from pc tools and it seems pretty safe too. I've been using it since vnunet gave it away many months ago and its never caused any problems. Besides, in vista the IP stack is all new and so called IP network optimisations make it worse. I even saw one regcleaner that had a registry "defragmenter". If you want to optimize the registry try NTREGOPT, just make sure you also get ERUNT with it located here. There's also Free Registry Defrag which is also safe and shows you beforehand if a registry optimization is really necessary or not, if the optimization is at or below 2% you're completely wasting your time optimizing the registry. RegCleaner is also very safe, but it's kinda out-dated. Also newer products from the same author (products are now under commercial company (Finnish company)) are safe to use: http://www.macecraft.com/. Although these newer products are not free. Registry defragmentation is nonsense 2a. So called "registry optimisation" is nonsense and on vista utilities that change things like the tcp window recieve size will messup what the all new tcpip stack in Vista does automatically 3. Developers use the regsitry for purposes it should not be used quite often and it is impossible for anyone else to determine the true function of all possible registry entrys - thinking you do is just ignorant 4. 90% of all registry "problems" can be fixed without users going in there 5. I favour the 1.3 version myself. (At least it used to be free. I'm not going to download it again just to check.) You CAN lose your dog because it got loose. I've been using that since October last year, with no problems at all, and it's the only application I've ever paid for. Recommended. I don't really dare try anything too adventorous with Vista - including regestry cleaners - Even some "Vista compatable" software seems to have been rushed out in a hurry and are buggy to say the least.
