overlord
So I used a software TeraCopy to copy some 150gb of stuff from 1 disk to another (both internal disks) and opt to shutdown automatically when done. When i next boot, one of the drives says i need to format the disk before i can use. Before i do anything that can destroy all my data for good, can Recuva recover all my files after i click format? Disk management and even Defraggler says the disk is healthy though.
Moderators mta Posted October 13, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 13, 2015 since you only used 'copy', isn't the data still on the original medium? but to specifically answer your question: Maybe. there are too many unknowns at this stage; drive age, file type, OS, why does it need reformatting, etc? obviously you would only do a Quick Format, which will keep your data but kill the system tables containing where that data resides. then Recuva has a much harder process to reconstruct your files, that then gets degrees harder if your data is fragmented. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
