copke
CCleaner wasn't that big to me until my old laptop got infected with a metric ton of malware (not literally.) i tried malwarebytes and windows defender and everything I possibly could have- except CCleaner. I asked my friend who was some sort of tech wiz (I am too, but he's more of a virus hunter) and he recommended this program. Not only did I clear out over half of the malware (there was some that had to manually be searched for and executed at the source) but I also removed like 4 gigabytes of useless crap. Even though I am currently on a new gaming computer, I still use it today and in fact just ran a scan and cleared a bunch of stuff out. This is for the people debating on whether to get it or go for malwarebytes or some other bigger program. Sure you can get those, but you won't have the whole experience unless you get ccleaner. Moderators Nergal Posted July 29, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 29, 2015 Ccleaner is not a replacement for proper, proactive security software. While I appreciate that your story worked out, ccleaner is not a security software and does not per se clean a computer in the same way or as an effective way to remove malware. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. TheWebAtom
CCleaner isn't a security program. If your computer was infected before you run CCleaner, chances are it's still infected after you ran CCleaner. I'm Shane.
Moderators Andavari Posted July 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 30, 2015 It is NOT an anti-malware, anti-virus, or anti-spyware. Just because allot of YouTube videos show off a new version of some malware removal software which usually always starts with them first running CCleaner to remove temporary files and the web browser cache - which can save them a ton of time during the malware removal scan phase doesn't make it a malware remover. In no way did CCleaner detect and remove malware, and any resident malware would just re-download or re-install what's been deleted.
