Microsoft Security Essentials v4.2.223.0 released on Microsoft Updates website.

Note that a new standalone setup .EXE file isn't available for download as of yet, I was only able to update via the Microsoft Updates website.

According to MS download page there isn't any WinXP version. Maybe XP support was dropped.

Not surprising. There has been quite a push to drop Windows XP everywhere lately.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm Shane.

The reason I didn't put the version number in the title was because of this, so as to not cause confusion:

When I posted it was at v4.2.223.0, then a few hours later Automatic Updates told me there was a v4.2.223.1 but it wouldn't let me install it and stopped offering v4.2.223.1 which I assume maybe isn't XP compatible but I can't confirm that yet since they don't even have a standalone setup .EXE available with the new version yet.

I have MSE installed in a WinXP VM and after this week's updates, the ver is 4.2.223.0 and the Engine ver is 1.1.9103.0

I did not get any further MS update notification of a newer version.

KB2804527: http://support.micro....com/kb/2804527 It doesn't mention any specific OS (XP, Vista, 7, etc.)

File is corrupt?

Digital signature reads as valid on my system, although I didn't run the file since I already have that version installed from Microsoft Updates.

The hashes for mseinstall.exe (32-bit, English, Windows XP version) is:

MD5 = 40260AF3A7B4F412D77A1A5209847BE2
SHA-1 = FC6118CECADA8B5DBB8A1459C85B0420CB755F6A

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

In case people didn't read the link I gave earlier which leads to a 24 page thread where everyone has posted about the file being corrupt.

Microsoft Security Essentials (x64 MSE English Corrupt Download)

The download for this file ONLY is corrupt from Microsoft. and at the time of me writing this, it is still corrupt.

It is supposed to be fixed today.

The workaround is to run Windows Update and look for the MSE optional update.

Aha, That's why my version isn't corrupted. Because it's not the ENGLISH version. It's the Spanish one.

By the way, for those interested in knowing I installed it on a fresh XP install and it is still a memory hog. Uninstalled it, installed AVG 2013 and there was a lot free memory more upon startup. Other than that it performed quite well.

EDIT: Could any moderator add the version numbering to the thread's title please... (4.2.223.0)

I knew it did 384 as well as 512, and assumed 512 superior.

I KNEW THAT! :P

I have no idea what I was thinking. Going back to sleep now . . .shame.gif
