Myq
I ran CCleaner on my laptop and ever since then, it's stopped booting. When I start the computer, it takes me to Startup Repair, which is unable to fix the problem for me. The make is Acer 5820T. The OS is Windows 7. I can't see my BSOD, even when I press F8 and then choose the "disable system restart" option (as advised in this thread http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=41625&hl=registry). It just takes me straight to another Startup Repair. I've been using Windows Security Essentials. When I tried using System Restore, it just says that no restore points have been created on the computer's system drive. I used sfc \scannow too, and I've attached a picture of what came up then. At the end of my tether here, and I'd appreciate from the bottom of my heart a solution that doesn't involve a wipe. Help please!
Moderators hazelnut Posted September 20, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 20, 2014 Does it boot into safe mode? Have you tried 'last known good' from the F8 menu? Are you able to see your pictures and docs etc to get them back if you boot using a linux cd? (you may need a friends pc to download and burn it for you) https://www.winhelp.us/recover-files-using-puppy-linux.html If all else fails, as long as you have a key on the bottom of your laptop you could perhaps re-install Win 7 http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-get-free-legal-copy-windows-7-installation-disk.htm Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Moderators mta Posted September 20, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 20, 2014 And to ease your concerns, even if you reload a fresh copy of Windows 7, it will automatically copy all your data (and it's old Program Files and Windows folders) into a new folder called windows.old, in effect, doing a backup for you. Sort of a best of all worlds, you fix the current problem when no other solution worked, you get a fresh install of Windows and the speed that brings and all your data is still there. Yes, you have to reload all your software again - but hey, we can't have it all. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. Myq
Thanks for all the help, guys. It doesn't boot in safe mode, and the f8 option's not working either. I guess it's gonna be a reload after all.
Moderators Andavari Posted September 22, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 22, 2014 I guess it's gonna be a reload after all. After you get your system up and running just the way you want it I'd highly recommend you look into a disk imaging software, there's both freeware and commercial. Often on the forums we recommend Macrium Reflect Free Edition (due to its ease of use), however there's also others.
