Moderators Nergal Posted July 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 28, 2015 Nice ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Willy2
Windows Repair version v3.42 released. Windows 10 posed a problem when it came to setting permissions of the registry. Although a lot of bugs were fixed it's not quite clear that all "Permission" related issues have been fixed. So, any new bug reports are VERY welcome. Post your bug reports, suggestions, thoughts, experiences etc. on the Tweaking.com forum, NOT here. Willy2
- A Windows 10 installation/upgrade leaves a number of/too many "loose ends" when it comes to permissions. But the new Windows Repair v3.50 (WR) ties up those loose ends. - The new WR takes less time to run the permissions repair(s). - I do think a number of problems with Win 10 as reported on this forum will be solved by running WR. - DO check the change log for more info !!!! http://www.tweaking.com/ Hopefully MS will adress the Win 10 bugs in the next new Windows 10 ISO file. (Another reason why I'll wait a while before even trying Win 10). System setup: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gcNzIPEjEb0B2khOOBVCHPc A discussion always stimulates the braincells !!! Willy2
New version of Windows Repair (v3.81) available. It turns out that Windows Vista is very "delicate". Register a number of files in the wrong order/sequence and VSS breaks. Although "Repair VSS" does register the files in the right order. New code used for the controls of WR. I was told that the new controls are more reliable and (much) less likely to cause crashes, hiccups , etc. But only time will tell. As said many times before: Feedback (bug reports & suggestions) are very welcome and should be posted on the forum of http://www.tweaking.com/ Or send the author of WR a PM. Willy2
New versions of 3 Tweaking.com programs released: - Windows Repair All In one v3.85 - Registry Back Up v3.41 (On systems with a "slow" graphics card/slow graphics the program continues to crash when run manually. Needs to improved ASAP, IMO). - Technicians Toolbox v1.20 (How many people are using this tool regularly ??) Willy2
- New version of "Tweaking's Windows Repair All in One" (WR) available. This time it's version WR v3.97. It now also is able to "repair" (= repair & clean) the recycle bin. It turns out that one needs to "tweak"/reset the permissions of the recycle bin to get that done. - "Tweaking's Registry Backup" has advanced to version v3.50. Source: www.Tweaking.com Bug reports and other feedback are - as always - welcome and are to be posted on the "Tweaking.com" website/forum. (I know that in the past some Ccleaner users had some problems with deleting the content of the recycle bin. Perhaps the CC developers can learn one or two things from how things are done in WR v3.97 and improve CC ??) Willy2
- Users who want to run the Tweaking's Window Repair program on a Vista system should - for the time being - note the following. If those users select repair #4 then they also should select repair #19 to be run. Repair #4 "breaks" something and it's mended by running repair #19. (No, I won't provide any details). - We have a pretty good idea of what the problem is and I hope this bug will be fixed in a next version of the program. The latest build is version v4.0.1. - The basic features are still available for free. - Those who have bought the version 3 PRO program can still access those PRO 3 features in version 4. Willy2
- Tweaking's Windows Repair version v4.02 has been released. Willy2
- The latest changes in the program code of versions v4.xx require that I must update post #163. To make sure that running Windows Repair doesn't "break" VSS on a Vista system the user needs to take the following into account. If the user selects repair #4 then the user also needs to run repair #18 (was repair #19). - Didn't have the time (yet) to go through the program code to see whether or not this unwanted behaviour (breaking VSS on a Vista system) has been fixed in v4.xx. Willy2
- I have a request for people who re-install Windows 7 & Windows Vista on a regular basis (MTA ? Hazelnut ?). - The request is the following: When you have installed Windows (again) then please run the latest Tweaking's "Svchost Look up tool". Can you tell me what the switches are for "Svchost.exe" that runs/controls the WMI Service ? (the tool can export the info to a text file) http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_svchost_exe_lookup_tool.html - FYI: The process "Svchost.exe" is the host for several Services that can be run with several different switches. There was some discussion with which switches "Svchost.exe" should be run when it wants to control/manage the WMI Service. There's the suspicion that changing that switch (from "-k winmgmt" to "-k netsvcs") for the WMI Service will cause errors/problems on a Windows 7 and Vista system. http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,5442.0.html System setup: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gcNzIPEjEb0B2khOOBVCHPc A discussion always stimulates the braincells !!! Willy2
- A future version of Windows Repair will be available in multiple languages (other than english). Don't know whether or not people can volunteer to provide a translation for the program and when the program will be available for translation. Perhaps Tweaking has already lined up a bunch of translators. I assume that there will be an official announcement somewhere in the future on the Tweaking website. - For questions, feedback (on e.g. bugs) people can go to the Tweaking.com website. Willy2
- Users of Windows 10 build 1809 and who want to use Tweaking's Windows Repair MUST use version v4.4.0 or newer. This Windows 10 Build 1809 contains a bug that - in some particular circumstances - will "break" Windows and prevent Windows 10 from working properly. - Windows Repair v4.4.0 (or newer) makes sure that this bug doesn't become a problem, fixes this problem. - I hope Microsoft will take care of this bug in the next Build. - More information is available at the Tweaking.com website: https://www.tweaking.com/ System setup: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gcNzIPEjEb0B2khOOBVCHPc A discussion always stimulates the braincells !!! Moderators Andavari Posted February 24, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2019 Tweaking.com - Registry Backup commonly fails to fully backup the registry, I find I have to babysit it and delete the failed backup, and then manually invoke a backup which works. Willy2
- Perhaps some other program is very busy at the same time ? If so then try to increase the delay with which the program is run would help to fix this problem. The program uses Task Scheduler to be started. - Post your problem on the Tweaking.com forum website. Moderators Andavari Posted February 24, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2019 It produces allot of error reports in Win10. To remedy the issue I've disabled its scheduled task, and will instead just manually invoke it daily which does work properly. I'd think if it's supposed to be a set-it-and-forget it type of automated backup that it should at least re-attempt to backup the registry again when it fails to fully make a proper backup.
