luizzz
Hey guys, i'm a huge fan of all Piriform apps but unfortunately i'm getting annoying about the fact that i can't run any Piriform app in my computer anymore! (Windows 8.1 x64 desktop) If i try to run CCleaner or Speccy... my computer completely locks up, there's no crash report, nothing... simply freezes and only the mouse cursor is responsive. No clicking, can't open any app... nothing. My only choice is a pc hard reset. Tried: Reinstall Uninstall, registry clean up (with 3rd party apps), defrag, install I have this problem since the beginning of the year, approximately... Anyone? SharronB
Have you made any changes to your (UAC) user account control settings?

luizzz
No UAC changes (i mean... after that problem, i've tried to switch to minimal or even turn off, but, no effect at all) I do not use any AV programs on background, only that "security essentials" from windows 8.1 Malware cause? Well, scanned with malwarebytes anti-malware and nothing is found.
Moderators hazelnut Posted August 1, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 1, 2014 Do you have check for updates ticked in ccleaner settings? Is so, untick it, reboot and then try and run ccleaner again. Moderators Nergal Posted August 2, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 2, 2014 Well, scanned with malwarebytes anti-malware and nothing is found. So you have no behavioural targeting antivirus (an active watcher)? Do you feel that's enough to assure this issue isn't cause by malware. I too would like to know if safe mode allows these programs to run. Do any programs, other than the piriform ones, refuse to run? ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. TheWebAtom
Sounds to me like a corrupt C++ Runtime Environment. I'm Shane.
Moderators Andavari Posted August 2, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 2, 2014 Some malware will not allow CCleaner to be used, I don't know about other Piriform software. Just because Malwarebytes Anti-Malware found no infections doesn't mean you can rest there, look at #10 in this list and choose one of the malware removal sites to determine if your system is actually clean. Also something else not malware related is open Internet Explorer and visit the Microsoft Updates website, and download all of the Root Certificate updates it shows are available for your system -- that alone can cause some software installations to fail which have a digital certificate attached which all of the Piriform software has to insure authenticity. luizzz
Do you have check for updates ticked in ccleaner settings? Is so, untick it, reboot and then try and run ccleaner again. I can't reach the ccleaner settings... the program doesn't even run do they also lock your PC if run from Safe Mode? Yep. So you have no behavioural targeting antivirus (an active watcher)? Do you feel that's enough to assure this issue isn't cause by malware. I too would like to know if safe mode allows these programs to run. Do any programs, other than the piriform ones, refuse to run? Yeah, i think is not related to malware issues... All my programs runs fine, only Piriform ones (CCleaner and Speccy) freezes pc and doesn't run. Sounds to me like a corrupt C++ Runtime Environment. Yes, i think so... this is my next step: uninstall all C++ Redistributable Packages and install again. Who knows? **fingers crossed**
Moderators mta Posted August 2, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 2, 2014 may be worth trying the portable builds of those programs as a straw clutching exercise more than anything else.
