kat lomas
Hello, I have noticed these two entries in Tools>StartUp>Scheduled tasks :- Task RealUpgradeLogonTaskS-1-5-21-3419518830-4070098631-924392413-1000 C:\Program Files\Real\RealUpgrade\RealUpgrade.exe /logoncheck Task RealUpgradeScheduledTaskS-1-5-21-3419518830-4070098631-924392413-1000 C:\Program Files\Real\RealUpgrade\RealUpgrade.exe /scheduledcheck When I go to C:\Program Files, there is no such program or file called 'Real'. There is 'Realtek" which looks like it belongs to an ancient Vista install. Can anyone explain what these entries are? Thanks.
login123
Probably associated with Realplayer. Even if it realplayer is uninstalled it may have left registry entries behind that are fooling CCleaner into thinking it is still installed. If you use the registry cleaner to remove it (or anything at all) please save the registry backup to a folder where you can remember it. You might be able to find out enough from google to get rid of it yourself: Some discoveries by Google. http://www.shouldiblockit.com/realupgrade.exe-fd8dcae8aae888d8bad0e6c2daaafb6d.aspx http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/when-i-open-the-task-scheduler-i-get-an-error/768329ae-606a-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/503824/trojan-and-possible-rootkit-please-help-me/ The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... kat lomas
Thank you very much. I had no idea that RealPlayer had been installed on this computer. I have deleted the entries and all is well.
login123
You're welcome. Glad it is fixed. I gave up on Realplayer long ago because it was so intrusive. A pretty good alternative is VLC media player, plays most anything you throw at it. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... kat lomas
I use Quintessential Media Player. It's been around for a long time and I've never had problems with it. Cheers. Moderator edit removed link, interested parties can google
