ETPC
Hey all! So, I just installed a brand new SSD with a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 on it and decided to defrag some of my older, bigger mechanical storage hard drives. Everything was going fine until one of my drives refused to let me defrag it past 71%. I mostly use defraggler to defrag certain high-use files. But now it's not working on this drive and none of my files get defragged because it never gets past 71%. At first I thought it was a problem file so I just unchecked it in the list, but now it fails at a different file at the 71% mark. What gives? A friend of mine says this is a sign the hard drive is dying. Which isn't good.
Moderators mta Posted April 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 27, 2015 have you checked the drive for errors? what filename is given by DF when it 'stops'? run DF with the PC in Safe Mode and see if the same thing happens. have you set the DF options to Stop VSS and to Exclude Restore Point and Hibernation files? Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
