Help or suggestions other than preset checkmarks.

I'm not a computer wiz but CCleaner is easy enough for me to use in it's pre-programed form. Unfortunately, I seem to have to use my CCleaner just about every other day to get my computer to work without a lot of problems- the most frequent being that, with-in a day or two of my last clean, my computer becomes super slow and always seems to get that "blue circle" thing on the screen (I call it "cycling") when it decides to just do nothing. It can sometimes take 3-5 minutes of this "blue thing"  cycling before my computer opens a program that I just clicked or even a page that I try to open. I'm afraid to check any of the other boxes in the cleaning "Analyse" mode (the ones that aren't already checked in the pre-set mode). Can anyone PLEASE suggest any other boxes to check? I'm afraid to lose something that is important to the running of my computer based solely on MY KNOWLEDGE (which is nil). I'm using a PC- Windows 7. I don't use Internet Explorer but I mostly use Chrome and once in a while Firefox. You can sent suggestions to my email address at **email address removed by moderator to avoid spamming** Thanks for your help. Michael Stichauf

The defaults are good for cleaning, and you'd need to read up if for instance enabling anything under Advanced.

Since you're dealing with a slowdown every few days:

* Do you regularly restart your computer, like at least once or twice per day? Doing this alone can fix many things like a memory leak, etc.

* Occasionally defrag your hard disk after using CCleaner.

This can be advanced, however I'd make sure the hard disk(s) are in DMA or UDMA, and not in the slow PIO mode, here's a search about it.

Also a bit of advice: don't use (clean) the registry section of ccleaner until you are more comfortable with a PC.

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.
