I do not understand, why, when I use Defraggler, the computer begins to slow. by chance, Auslogics defrag creates incompatibilities with your program?

What is to defragment the files are not fragmented? I seem to notice, that the search does not find all files. I try all the files, but they seem a bit Pochini. I put it to search for files smaller and put the maximum amount.
As ever, some files, with the characters spaciali, can not be defragmented? Also in scanning and scanning space, I remain of the squares red or pink.

Defraggler v2.09.391 Issues.

hi all

I'm running win XP Home SP3 and like many I have been noticing that the latest version of Defraggler v2.09.391 seems to be running very slowly, at this point it's slower then windows built in defragmenter.

My drive is 160gb and is split in to 2 partitions, the main partition which is about 80gb has the OS on and the second partition which is about 70gb is for file storage so that if the OS messes up I can reinstall with out loosing my files.

Now the main partition that has the OS on has just had a fresh install of XP put on it so there is only about 30gb of date on that partition and only about 2.5gb of that date is actually fragmented meaning that it should take no more than about 15 minutes to defragment, if that, yet i've had this running for hours and it's still not done yet.

It seems to make no odds if I use fast defrag or normal defrag both run extremely slowly and it's taking an age to move even small files which ordinarily would be moved immediately so obviously something is wrong because Defraggler shouldn't be running that slow, granted defraging can be a slow process if the drive is heavily fragmented or quite full or both but neither of these things apply in this cast so i'd like to know what's going on because some how I doubt very much that this is a problem with my system as I'm not the only one who is seeing this issue.

Something else I've noticed as well is that the time remaining seems to be woefully inaccurate and and not even close to reality I've had it project a time remaining of 30 minutes only to still be waiting for Defraggler to finish 4 or 5 hours later.

I don't know what you have changed but what ever it is it's had a badly detrimental effect on the speed of the application and if i where you i'd get your programmers to go over the code with a fine tooth comb becaue somthing oviously isn't working as it should be.

If you need any info or what have you feel free to ask and i'll try my best to answer.

Defraggler is thrashing

When started and just told to to do a full (as opposed to quick) defrag, it takes an inordinately long time to complete and once it completes or if it is stopped and restarted, the analysis numbers show a much more fragmented disk than they did one minute earlier before it stopped.

If I instead just go to the fragmented file list and select all the fragmented files and tell it to defrag those, then it will fairly quickly work its way through the list defragging most and significantly improving the remaining and when it stops a subsequent analysis will show the drive more or less totally defragmented.

Shouldn't the two methods be producing similar run times and results?
Is there a command line switch (CLS) so I can tweak a scheduled task to just select the fragmented files and defrag those? And while I'm asking, is there a similar CLS for defragging free space?

Defraggler Using End of Drive. Will It Clear? Wish to Partition

I wish to partition a drive, and to that end, undertook defragmenting it because Defraggler showed a few sectors being occupied at the end of the drive.

Defraggler has been working about 12 hours now, and rather than moving the data at the back of the drive up to the front with the rest of the data, it has added more data to the back of the drive,

Perhaps it is just using this area for temporary storage as it moves files around. Will it clear this area eventually?

Defraggler is stating it will take more than a day to finish. I prefer not to run it all that time just to be foiled at the end.

Beginner's question: how long should defrag take?

Hi there,

I've only got a basic computer knowledge compared to other forum users from what I can see, so perhaps this is a stupid question! But ...

Defraggler's analysis says I have the following:
48,399 fragmented files (11.5GB)
169,212 total fragments
4% fragmentation

I've got a 300GB HD, 2.2Ghz T4400 processor and 4GB RAM.

I've had it running for a day and it's still going and not making much progress. Having looked at old threads re slow defrag time I disabled system restore and unchecked the Move large files option. But it's still suggesting > 1 day defrag. Vast majority are small files, maybe 20 > 100Mb-1GB, though a fair few smaller files have hundreds of fragments. just selecting those under 50MB doesn't seem to make a difference.

As I've only defragged once in last two years (yes, I know) should I just accept that it's a huge job first time round?

If anyone can help clarify my situation that would be great,

Thanks!

a few questions

1. Is it possible to schedule just freespace defrag?

2. I now have DF setup to move the large files with cetain extensions (movies) to the end of the drive: assuming that means to the innermost edge of the platter(s). That seems to work great when I actually run the GUI (defraggler.exe); but I think when I run with the scheduler (df.exe) it is placing those files back to where they are contiguous with the other files. I will test this further this weekend to make sure I am not imagining it.

Another part of my question about the movement of large files, is it possible to set DF so that "large" files can mean more than one size? What I mean by that is there a possible way to move say movie files that are 100MB or larger, and set it to move large .mdb datebase files that are say 50MB or larger. Hope I'm making sense here.

3. Final question is really not about DF at all, but I question I have about the MFT. I have noticed on my secondary drive that it has two $MFT listed. This drive has fairly large files, but the total number of files is not that many. I've searched to see if there should be more than one MFT but have come up empty.

Thanks for advise.

can't defragment below 16%..why?

Hey guys and girls..i have this little issue here and i'm hoping you can help me figure what's causing it..

I think i saw a similar topic somewhere, but it's not exactly the same, so..here it is:

I have windows 7 x64 and i'm running defraggler x64 (free version).

I am pretty sure that it's the best freeware defragging software, but..

i try to defragment my hard disk (the disk is 1TB with just the windows installation and some small programs, so i don't store large files on this drive).

A couple months back, the minimum fragmentation of the disk was about 4% which was caused by the system files that couldn't be moved (i used a different version of defragler then if that helps at all)
Now the minimum fragmentation of the disk can't drop below 16% no matter what i do.
Seeing the graph before and after the defragment, it looks like a part of the disk is always fragmented and the defragging process just changes tha files that will ocupy the fragmented space(the red blocks are not reducing at all, but when you click on them you see different files than before the defragment..)
I thought it was weird, so i checked the disk for errors, with tuneup utilities' tool and with windows check disk (thorough test with both programs) and they didn't find anything wrong with the disk.
I benchmark the disk with defragler and it says Health: Good
The problem remains even after the checkdisk.
I say "Maybe the disk is on the verge of getting burned and for some reason the above programs can't detect it" , so i change disks.
I installed my windows to a different disk i install defragler and i see to my surprise that even then the fragmentation doesn't drop below 16%.
So..what's going on? i even tried boot time defragment but it didn't make any difference.
Can i do something to improve the defragment?
As i said the disk has mostly windows installation files and some programs like java, defragler etc, so the problem is not a matter of filesize.

thank you.
