A large ini such as this one can cause a slower startup for ccleaner (far more noticable on older/slower machines) and users may wish to manually remove entries they do not need from the file if they feel this lag time is too great.

Please bear in mind that these entries are NOT endorsed or supported in any way by the developers of CCleaner, and should be considered "beta."

That being said, they can (though we do our best to prevent this) cause issues with various programs or your system as a whole.

Piriform is not responsible for any damages done to your computer, and I also ask that if you encounter an error/problem with an entry here, you post it in this thread to keep winapp2.ini related issues centralized.
To create a custom winapp2.ini file that only holds entries relevent to your computer, Alan_B has kindly created a batch file that will do this for you.

It requires that you save your ccleaner settings to an ini file (this option is found in settings - advanced)

simply download this file and place it in your CCleaner directory, then double click it and let it do its job. It will backup the old winapp2.ini and create a new one. This file will load much more quickly than the full file, and yield the same results!

[Name*]

This is the name of your entry, usually followed by a * for formatting purposes. This is what will appear in the Applications list within CCleaner.

LangSecRef=

This indicates where on the list of applications within CCleaner your entry will appear. Appropriate LangSecRef numbers are below.

Quote

LangSecRef
3021 = Applications
3022 = Internet
3028 = Safari

Detect/DetectFile

These values are what CCleaner looks for to check if it should return true on an entry. Eg. DetectFile=%WinDir%\ will return true because this points to your windows directory.
Environment Variables (below) are vastly preferred over direct paths (such as C:\*)

Detect= points to a registry key
DetectFile= points to a file or folder.
Detect Paths:
Quote

Default=False

It is preferred that Default be set to false because Default is the default setting of the tickbox (False=Unticked)
This is to ensure no one has any boxes ticked that they didn't want ticked.

FileKey1/RegKey1=

The FileKeys and RegKeys are paths of items you'd like to delete. When pointing to these, you must list the path (using the environment variables above) then use the pipe symbol | and have the filenames/registry keys after

Warning=

If there is something the end user should know about an entry, such as it resetting play counts in a media player, high scores on a game, add a warning= followed by the message.
Eg: Warning=This will delete all of your high scores.
This is considered a courtesy to the end user in helping making them aware of what they're deleting.

Remember, when posting, please test your entries before you post them, so you can be sure they don't harm the workings of the programs. Also try to post which operation system(s) you tested it with!

Status of CCleaner & evercookies

I found one old post on the forum about evercookies & CCleaner cleaning them. http://forum.pirifor...ie&fromsearch=1

Quote

Posted 23 December 2010 - 08:40 PM
Does CCleaner combat regenerative cookies like EverCookie?
Yes.

Haven't seen anything recent nor anything I remember in any release notes of new CCleaner versions. Surely, if the devs were confident it could handle them, they'd put it in the Features??

BUT, I've yet to find out how to identify these evercookies in Firefox (now v12). Maybe I've never gotten one, but I don't know exactly what to look for - where.

On one of Bruce Schneier's posts about evercookies https://www.schneier...vercookies.html
he mentions these possible locations they could be stored (but still doesn't say / show what the cookies look like).
ALSO doesn't say which browser these locations (below) would be for:

"Specifically, when creating a new cookie, it uses the following storage mechanisms when available:

Standard HTTP Cookies

Local Shared Objects (Flash Cookies)

Storing cookies in RGB values of auto-generated, force-cached PNGs using HTML5 Canvas tag to read pixels (cookies) back out

Storing cookies in Web History (seriously. see FAQ)

HTML5 Session Storage

HTML5 Local Storage

HTML5 Global Storage

HTML5 Database Storage via SQLite"

What do (might) evercookies look like in Firefox & where would these locations be - in the profile, in a folder on C:\ - similar to where Flash stores LSO cookies, or...?
Thanks!

Opera 11 Portable not in the list

Hi All,

I have just started using Opera 11 installed in it's Portable mode. It is in it's own Folder on Drive D: a Partition of the main hard disk D:\OperaPortable so not really Portable. I installed it there as it keeps all of the files in a single Folder structure and makes for easy email backups as I am also using the Mail extension.

How can I point CCLeaner to clear out the appropriate browser files when I run CC?

I have done some searching and reading here and there is no winapp.ini file in the CC installation folder. I have been reading about winapp2.ini but not sure how to define the portable Opera installation.

Can someone please assist me with this?

Thanks

Why does Drive Whiper only whip 219MB?

Dear everyone,

When I use Drive Wiper, under Tools > Drive Wiper, to do a Free Space Only wipe on my C: drive it it start but only does 219.401MB for some reason. Even though my 500GB harddrive has 214GB of freespace. So I was wondering how I get it to whipe the entire free space?

Secondary issue that might be related. Right clicking on my C: drive gives me 251GB used 214GB available. However when I count all the files I have up by hand it hovers around 65GB. Lets give it some room for error and make it 100GB. Thats a pretty big margin of diffrence between 100GB used and 214GB used. So whats happening?

Hi,
1. The new feature "autoclosing internet browser" works only with Firefox and Chrome. Internet Explorer and Safari are not influenced, and in any case it may works better
2. Surely in the new feature there is a bug because if the first time I put the Flag in the Confirm Box "Don't repeat the answer in the future" ccleaner does'nt close browser more and it is impossible go back and restore the Confirm Box. I must disinstall and reinstall, losing all my settings.
This only for your information because I love this Little big utility!

Drive Wiper shuts down laptop with blue screen error message

Something strange is happening when I run Drive Wipe on one of my drives.

Let me preface this by saying I have smart failure on my disk because of reallocated sector count.

I put in a clean install of windows on C drive and saved a backup to the D drive that is giving me problems.

First time I ran drive wipe on D, it shut down the laptop giving me a blue screen error message saying it encountered some errors etc...it disappeared before I could read the whole thing.

So I formated the D drive erasing my backup and tried to wipe the drive again.

Same thing happened again.

I noticed when I click on computer, I notice the D drive has a red bar instead of a blue bar like the other drives, so I opened the D drive and found a file that's about 20 gigs so I'm assuming it's the backup I made.

I delete the file, and the red bar disappears and shows the D drive is empty, but every time I try to run the drive wipe on the D drive, it creates this file which shuts down my laptop with a blue screen error message and a runs a chkdsk on reboot, but the chkdsk gets stuck after completeing 3of3, so I have to manually power down the laptop and restart again.

Somehow after I format the D drive. the drive wiper is recognizing the old backup and creates the file.

I know it's risky to run the drive wipe, but I don't care about losing any info, I just want to use the laptop til it dies.

clean multiple user profiles on workstation - again

So, I see the many comments that this feature has been asked and answered many times. I propose it has NOT been answered many times.

Here is a valid scenario. I have several computers at home for my family. They are all workgroup and not on a domain. I do have several accounts on each machine and I have parental controls etc. What I would like to do is setup the CCleaner to clean the computers every X hours.

Why would I want to pay for a program where I have to setup a login script on each computer usre account instead of just scheduling it to clean?

Many here warn of the un-intended side affect of me cleaning the other users. Well, the other users are my family members or my business employees and I admin the computers so I am already making all the decisions anyway. Shouldnt that be my problem with the users and not yours?

So, I ask again, why can't I have this feature? I suspect you have two types of admins for your software: The first are sysadmins using your tool in the enterprise and they will use AD to manage your software, and the other are soho and home warriors (which is where this tool began).

To date I have used the free version only and I regularly check for this feature - once this feature is added for us home warriors I will gladly pay for the tool...

Now, I am open minded to the possibility that this is a bad feature BUT if you think so, please list specifics as to why its a fatal idea in the home/soho situation -- when I say fatal, I mean the bad grossly outweighs the good...

thanks,

Make it easier to remove unused entries from uninstalled apps.

Could you guys consider making it easier to remove old entries from applications that have been uninstalled? Very often they don't automatically drop off and CCleaner gets cluttered. I like the way you can just delete entries from the Startup list. It would be fantastic if something like this was implemented in the main interface.

How to remove "Sun Java" from CCleaner?

How do you remove the entry for Sun Java in the Applications tab under "Internet?" I uninstalled Java from two machines (one Vista SP2 one XP SP3) and it was dropped automatically from CCleaner. But another machine (XP SP3) doesn't want to play nice. I removed every file and folder with "Sun" or "Java" in the name, and went through the registry exporting, deleting, and then restoring when none of them removed it. Who knows how to get rid of it?
