Moderators mta Posted June 9, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 9, 2013 it is only in very rare circumstances that you ever need to manually touch the Registry or that any cleaning of the Registry will have any discernible benefits. the golden rule with the Registry is to always leave it be. (of course there is always exceptions where some 'hack' is required to get over a hurdle) any change to it, at best, would give so slight of a benefit to be not worth the risk, or at worst, leave your OS unusable. there's also the other risk that despite the registry change achieving what you wanted, some unknown cause-and-effect takes place and Windows gets broken in some obscure way that doesn't show up until later. that's the warning taken care of. as to your question. short answer: yes. but cover your bacon by exporting that key first or by doing some sort of Registry backup. long answer: why? give more info as to what you are trying to achieve/fix. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
